This week Richard hosted a "meet and greet" for Mayor Thomas Menino, a candidate for re-election. But neighbors, civic and business leaders also presented Richard with the Boston's Best Neighbor award on the same evening for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the Dorchester area.  The Dorchester Park Association obtained National Register status for this gem and Richard has helped establish an endowment fund. His donations and efforts to raise funds for the endowment have been extraordinary. He also organizes volunteer work groups to clean invasive plants from the park and is one of the most enthusiastic worker. In the Lower Mills area, he promotes new businesses and hangs the holiday decorations. He works with the Dorchester Historical Society and developers to preserve the neighborhood's rich cultural heritage and to encourage quality new construction. His shop serves as a neighborhood meeting place during events such as the Scarecrow Festival last weekend. Thanks, Richard, for being such a great neighbor.

The award was created by the folks at Vargas and Vargas Insurance Agency and supported by Meetinghouse Bank of Lower Mills which was represented by Anthony Paciulli, President. All residents of the City of Boston are eligible for this annual award.
