Peak foliage and bright sunshine added to the festive atmosphere at this year's Scarecrow Festival. There were scarecrows everywhere including a costumed staff member who guided visitors across the streets. Dressed in Halloween costumes, children enthusiastically whacked pinatas then gathered the booty. With cider and popcorn, they admired the pumpkins and played "king of the hay bale." Mayor Thomas Menino and his wife Angela stopped by to chat with neighbors. The celebration ended with an old fashioned hay ride in Fred Nova's wagon pulled by two strong handsome black horses.
